Elias Storms

I rewrote the words below a few times – apologies if it starts resembling LinkedIn talk.

I consider myself a cultural sociologist, and am currently working at the University of Applied Sciences & Arts AP and the University of Antwerp. There I teach sociology and research methods and research a variety of topics.

Over the last decade, I have researched different themes from a sociological perspective (such as my PhD on indebtedness and debt collection) and in multidisciplinary projects (on topics such as the algorithmic curration of news feeds, urban mobility of elderly citizens, digital inclusion).

In 2020 I obtained a doctoral degree in sociology at the University of Antwerp, where I was a teaching assistant in general and theoretical sociology from 2012 until 2018. Between 2019 and 2021, I was a Human-Computer Interaction researcher at KU Leuven.

On these pages I share a rather disparate collection of (by now old) sociological reflections (in Dutch), and technical notes on Emacs – two topics of interest both inside and outside of academia.

A selection of academic publications is presented here.

My publicly visible digital footprint has many traces:
